Website Designing Factor For Seo Friendly Website
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Neyaz_Alam]Neyaz Alam
* Using of Frames - Frames can impact many SEO-related issues as the separation of URLs can devalue the links coming to the page(s) and dilute the ranking power of a single document over multiples. There are technology solutions like CSS that can make framed pages usable, but classic HTML frames are particularly difficult to rank at the search engines.
* Avoid subdirectories - If there are not too many pages on your site (up to a couple of dozen), it is best to place them all in the root directory of your site. Search engines consider such pages to be more important than ones in subdirectories
* Graphic header - Very often sites are designed with a graphic header. Often, we see an image of the company logo occupying the full-page width. Do not do it! The upper part of a page is a very valuable place where you should insert your most important keywords for best seo.
* Graphic navigation menu - Internal links on your site should contain keywords, which will give an additional advantage in seo ranking. If your navigation menu consists of graphic elements to make it more attractive, search engines will not be able to index the text of its links. If it is not possible to avoid using a graphic menu, at least remember to specify correct ALT attributes for all images
Speeding Up Your Web Page
* Images - A good rule of thumb is to strive for no one image being larger than 10 Kb. you should call them in your HTML with the height and width specified in the image tag.
* HTML - Once you have your images down to a reasonable size, try streamlining your HTML. You will find sites out on the Internet that advocate removing all extraneous tags, to the point of removing the final and . You can remove all the unnecessary attributes created by some editors, and use the defaults of tags as much as possible.
* Page size - With small images and clean HTML, you can still end up with a page that takes forever to download because there is so much information. If you are striving for a speedy download, limit your page total size (including images) to about 30 Kb.
* Tables - Nested tables are a common cause of slow pages. They are so tempting to use as they improve the layout enormously, but they take a long time for the browser to render. It's not that the page didn't download, but with multiple tables in tables, the browser has to work harder to display the page. It cannot display any part of the page in the tables until it has figured out how to render all the tables that are nested.
Optimizing Bandwidth and Cleaning Out the Code
* Unwanted Spaces - we cleaned up in our website recently to save space and bandwidth. Spaces between tags are usually invisible on the screen, but they take up space. Check spaces If your web page editor permits multiple page search and replace, search and replace them
* Image Borders - By default, images do not have borders, but many web page editors automatically insert border="0" in their image tags. This adds up to 10 bytes per image which can be eliminated. The instructions for borders on images can be put into the style sheet if necessary.
* Excessive Comments - Web designers often use comments to help them with the layout of their coding in their HMTL and CSS pages. These are great, but they also take up space. Consider leaving them in your template pages and eliminating them in your final pages.
* Excessive Tabs - . It can help make the code easier to read but using bandwidth so remove all unnecessary tabs.

Choices on Website Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joe_Solaman]Joe Solaman
So you have come to the conclusion that having a website to showcase your business or organization on the Internet is a cost effective and expedient way to advertise. One question you may ask yourself is what took you so long to figure this out? Right now your competition has their websites up and going and they have had more time to gain a lead on promoting their websites.
If you manage your recourses carefully and make the right decisions, you can in fact eliminate any lead that they have gained and see your website better rated or positioned in the search engines. To start with you are going to need a professionally designed website, because people are going to judge you and your business by the appearance of your website.
One problem you will face is deciding just who you are going to have do the design work on your website, because there are so many website designers that have opened their doors on the Internet. The reason behind this is the availability of cheap website design software that can turn just about anyone into a website designer over night.
They may be lacking in creative skills and don't have any understanding of keyword function and certainly don't have the creative writing skills that are required for writing first rate script but they are website designers none the less. If you are serious about your website and have plans on it being successful then you are going to have to have it designed by a seasoned pro and that is just the way life works.
If you won't let a beginner cut your hair then why on earth would your trust your website that you are counting on to making you money to a beginner. Choose a reputable design company that has an established track record to do your work and you will be rewarded with a first rate website that represents you well and is able to compete on the Internet.

New Jersey vs New York City Website Development Companies
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Daryl_H._Bryant]Daryl H. Bryant
If you're in the beginning states of developing or re-developing your website and live in the New Jersey / New York metropolitan area, then let me give you a few words of advice - Seek out a reputable New Jersey based website design and development company and compare their services and offerings to those located in New York City / Manhattan. I'm 100% certain you will find highly reputable companies that offer the same services with a more affordable price tag.
Here are a few reasons why I recommend using a New Jersey-based Website Design and Development Company over a New York City / Manhattan-based one.
It's more affordable to use a New Jersey-based company Why is this true? Well think about it. In general, most reputable design and development companies in New York City are located in the center of Manhattan where rent prices and business expenses are twice that of any New Jersey location. When rent prices and expenses increase, what happens to the prices of their services? That's right, they increase as well.
From my experience, you will find website development and design companies to offer their services for half the price of most New York-based companies... even the ones immediately over the NJ border, directly on the other side of the Washington Bridge, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels.
It's easier to get around If you live in New Jersey and need to commute into the City to visit your website development company on a continual basis, then you will find it more difficult to get around to where you need to go. First of all, the traffic in NYC is usually horrendous. Secondly, parking in NYC can be quite expensive. Parking for 1 hour could cost upwards in the area of $30. Whereas parking in NJ is most likely free and traveling to and from your website development company's office will be a more straightforward task.
You will find the same website design and development services Whether you use a [http://www.hudsonhorizons.com ]New Jersey website development company or a New York-based company to perform website services for your business, you will receive similar services from either one. What's offered by one can most likely be offered by the other, you just have to find the right service provider for what you're looking for.
New York City based companies generally have a more prestigious name but what do you care about? Do you care about using a prestigious company or do you care about the end result? If you care about the end result and want to save a few dollars while doing it, then I recommend finding a New Jersey-based website design company who can offer you the same services as a New York-based provider.
Some popular services that you should consider when seeking out a provider are Content Management, e-Commerce, Social Networking, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and e-Marketing.
As you can see, the main reason why I recommend using a New Jersey-based Website Design and Development Company over a New York City based company is price. NYC companies need to charge more because their rent and expenses required to operate their business are much greater than those in New Jersey. If you're a company that wants to cut costs but doesn't want to hold back on quality, then I recommend locating a few website design or development company in New Jersey and see what they offer vs. their counterparts in New York City.

Make Your Website Dynamic
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Maneet_Puri]Maneet Puri
Make your site dynamic! “What do you mean by a dynamic website?” – A website integrated with the database to generate information that visitors see is called a dynamic website. The antonym of dynamic website is a static website, which means that information displayed on the web pages is hard coded in them.
There are many benefits of having a dynamic website – the webmaster can make easy updates to information without fiddling with the source code of the website, generating different forms of information depending upon the visitor or input without creating separate pages for each possible output, give flexibility of adding as many pages as required without manually generating pages and uploading on the server, consistency while displaying information through out the website can be maintained, can offer different features for different type of users to avail services from the website respective to there domain, and the list goes on……
“How can a website be made dynamic?” – Embedding database related codes of any server side scripting language to the pages of website makes the website dynamic. Possible options for the server side scripting language you can use for your website depends on the operating system of the server on which your site is hosted. For Windows based server commonly used languages include PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, C#, Cold fusion etc., and for the Linux based server the options are PHP, Perl, Python, etc.
A considerable number of server side scripting languages are available to choose from but I am found of PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) and always suggest it as the scripting language, the reasons for this liking are: -
a) First it runs on Linux as well as Windows server.
b) It’s a freeware so no cost of purchasing
c) The syntax is easy to learn and get used to.
d) It has a wide range of in-built features
e) Offers connectivity with most of the available database servers
f) Easy installation on server and easy configuration with other third party components
g) Is an object oriented programming language
h) It does not require any plug-in on client’s machine to get executed, it is complied on the server end and outputs the result in the form of HTML.
There are many such features which makes PHP not just my favorite but is a preferred language of many web developers.
“How to check if your server support PHP or not?” – Copy the piece of code below in a text editor and save the file as phpinfo.php, now upload it on your web server in the folder where you upload HTML pages. If it’s root of the server then type the URL http://www.yourdomainname.com/phpinfo.php in the address bar. If the output is a configuration then it means your server supports PHP and if it prompts to save the file then your server does not support PHP, you will have to ask your ISP to enable it for your domain.
Go to http://www.php.net/ to find more, learn and download PHP. Give it a try and you will realize how easy it is to use and to what extent it gives you the flexibility to make your website interactive and feature rich.

Good Website Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Guri_Jeff]Guri Jeff
Now days, every organization either big or small owns a website. But, there are just few websites who have higher return on investment (ROI) or large amount of visitors visiting websites everyday. This is because they have a well-designed attractive website. The appearance of the website is the first thing that one observes while browsing through. Therefore, it becomes a perquisite while designing.
But before working towards design of the website, it is important to evaluate the kind of website you would be creating. The different types of website i.e. dynamic and static have different parameters for designing. Based upon your requirement, you can design an appealing and attractive website.
Features of a Good Website
Every website has different parameters for designing. But, there are certain features or parameters which remain same for a good website. They are:
Color Scheme: Selecting a right color combination is very important for your website. If your website is related to children, then select bright colors like red, orange, green, etc to attract their attention. While designing a professional website, it is important to select color scheme which are in-sync with corporate colors of the organization. The colors should also gel with the overall theme and type of services/products offered by the website.
Navigation: Navigation provides an intuitive way for visitors to follow. The navigation has to be uncluttered and concise, so that it is easier for visitor to browse through the website. You should preliminarily have consistent left and bottom navigation throughout the website.
Layout: Layout defines the structure of the website. Nowadays, website’s web page real estate is 1024 X 768 resolution; web page real estate is the area in which website is covered as compared to full screen. The font size should be 11 or 12 pixels, so that the text is easily readable. Prefer to select a professional font face rather than fancy fonts.
Loads Quickly: Website should have graphics to make it appealing, but avoid having loads of graphics or scripting as it will increase the website load time. If websites takes more than few second to load, people tend to get annoyed and browse through another website.
Overall the website should have a user-friendly and well-organized professional look to attract millions of visitors.

Web Site Design - The Must Do's for a User Friendly Web Site Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sean_R_Mize]Sean R Mize
There are large companies out there that hire graphic and web site designers to make sure that the design of their web site is the best. But not all companies can afford the fee of these designers. So if you have a business online and want to polish your web site design, here are some useful must do’s for you.
1. Flash animations are not search engine readable. So if you are using them, you are missing one important way of getting more traffic to your site. Additionally, they are usually in large files so they do not load fast. People may get bored waiting for the page to load. So get away with flash animations.
2. Also, there are times that your page may load slowly if there are a lot of texts or graphics on your web site. You can actually compress the images to make sure that your page will load even the customers are not yet done counting 1 to 5.
3. Check for broken links on your site. You know, you can lose a lot of clients if there are many links that are not working on your site. These broken links will drive away the clients from your site.
4. You can validate the HTML on your site with the use of validation services online. They can help you fix these code errors on your site. Once the HTML codes are right, you can make sure that the customers will have better experience.
5. You should also know if your site is compatible with other browsers. Of course, you would not want to lose other clients just because they are using other browsers. So have your site designed to be compatible with any browser the clients may use

4 Most Common Web Site Templates Mistakes
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Dow]John Dow
Using a web site template right out of the box is a very common mistake new web designer’s make. One of the cool things about the web is that it’s so visual. Using a web site design template can save any new web developer a lot of time and effort. But like any tool, you can get into trouble if you don’t pay attention.
Color combinations, layout, and graphics are the key design elements in any web site template. Each web site should be designed around the subject matter, ease of use, and accomplish any special goals or end result. A lot of new web site designers get lost in the visual effects, which can have negative effects on user friendliness and search engine optimization.
If you look at some of the most popular web sites, the common element is simplicity and ease of navigation. There are few dancing bears, flash intros, or exploding special effects. And almost everyone has text navigation for the most part. They may have some very well designed graphics, and a few design elements but keep it simple for the user.
User friendliness and easy navigation should adhere to the two-click rule. This is a simple rule that implies any user should be able to find what they want on any given web site in two clicks. With the short attention span and impatient attitude of most surfers, you need to give them what they want fast. You normally only have about 5 seconds to grab their attention.
I use templates a lot to save time and effort on a new design. Some I’ve developed myself, some I’ve bought that give me at least a 70% solution. They may have some graphics that go with my subject matter and/or some colors and layout that suit my purpose for the web site. But they also may be missing some key elements.
Most web site templates have great visual effects and good color combinations. But many lack several important elements for both users and our friends the search engines. Here’s a list of common mistakes I see all the time when a web designer uses a web site template.
1. Navigation – Menu issues
2. No Sitemap
3. Ignoring the fold position
4. No H1 or H2 designated headline and sub headlines
Graphic, pull down, popup or other methods of displaying menus can look good but sometimes confuse the user and are invisible to the search engine bots. These are two good reasons to use a text menu somewhere that show all necessary navigation links.
Sitemaps are important for the same reason as above. Both users and search engines can see a snapshot of everything on your web site and get to it quickly. This improves your chances to get indexed quickly and gives the user that two click ability.
The fold position is where the bottom of the monitor breaks off the view of the page. All important information should be displayed above that line if at all possible. Don’t make the user scroll if it’s not necessary. Any navigation, special links, attention getters, or critical information should always display above the fold line.
H1 and H2 designate important info to the search engine bot. A common good search engine optimization is to put your keywords in the first headline that the user sees. Of course the headline should also induce the reader to continue to read the web page.
It’s pretty easy to fix all these issues during the initial design stage. Even though I’ve created 100’s of web sites I still use a checklist. The devils in the details and everything you can do to make it easy for the user and the search engines, the more successful your web site will be.
A web site template can be a big time saver but you need to insure that the end result has all the necessary features both users and the search engines. Make your web site both user and search engine friendly by making these small changes or additions.

Basics of a Great Website Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Grace_Alexa]Grace Alexa
Building a good looking website can involve a lot of time
and energy. There are quite a few website design and
website development articles that can make it easy to design
a creative and functional website.
There are quite a few techniques we use to create a good
looking websites. A great looking web design (or website
design) required attention to details, careful consideration of
your business and also what your competitors have been
doing.
Some of the techniques we use while creating a website
design are:
1. Website Development and Branding: Every
website design requires new logo and branding. When a
visitor comes to your website they first thing they look at is
your branding. You have to ensure that the logo you choose
highlights your company branding, essence and ethics. A
website design without the right logo is like a body without a
soul. If you look at some of the most successful websites,
you will notice that their logo has become their brand and
everyone recognise their logo.
2. Select the right images for your Website Design:
We all know that a photo is worth a thousand words. A
good photography can make an ordinary website design
into a creative looking web design. You can easily use a
photo to highlight your business, services and other sections
of your website.
3. Learn about website design: It is worthwhile to
do some research about website design and web
development across the web. Try and learn about web
development from experts and successful organisations.
Visit some websites you like and try and analyze the
concepts in their website design that attracts you to those
websites. The next thing to consider is how you can use
those concepts to suits your business and implement them in
website design and web development for your website.
4. Website Development and Cool colours: Make
sure that the colours you use in your website design are nice
and attractive. Use colours that are easy on eyes and
colours that are nice and attractive. Also make sure that the
colours you use don’t repel your customers. For example, a
website that targets visitors from South Asia should not
have red colours as red colour might offend visitors from
some South Asian countries. Thus you will avoid using
colours in your website design or website development that
might offend your users.
The above mentioned ideas just a few of many that you
have to consider when working on a website. Make sure
that the website designer you use understands these issues
and implement them in your web design and website
development.

Nowadays, most of the web application development projects fizzle or remain unsuccessful in fulfilling user's requirements. If somehow projects are completed, then they go beyond the set budgets and time lines.
Scope of the Web Application
Prior to start developing a web application, scope of the application should be thoroughly analyzed and documented, considering the users of the product, it's benefits to them, etc..

Using an Agency to Design Your Website
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Judith_Sternson]Judith Sternson
Hiring an agency to create a custom web site design can be a huge benefit for your business. Most people will not return to your web site without having an agency designed web site. In order to achieve ideal results, it would work to your benefit to hire a web design agency because the best possible outcome for the company's profits will be produced.
In order to broaden the increasing amount of customers, web agency designs will benefit and increase the marketing horizons. On top of reaching more people, having a web design agency create your web site will give your business a more professional and credible reputation. First impressions are sometimes the only impressions so a web design agency will work to your benefit if you wish to compete with other companies with similarities and services.
If you want your web site to be more unique and creative it may be beneficial to have a custom web design as opposed to a business web design. Custom web designs will benefit your business and will stick out in the minds of the potential customers. You will be able to focus your web design on a clear objective.
There are numerous web design software programs that are on the market but none of them will produce a unique design because of the common templates used. A design agency will take your individual and professional preferences and show it on your web site. To get an edge in such a competitive business world, a web design agency is a must.
The agency will benefit your web site by allowing you to have a great deal of input and creativity to your design. This uniqueness will stand out to potential customers and give you an advantage over your competitors and benefit your bottom line.

5 Web Site Development Tips to Turn the Tide In Your Favor
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Theresa_Cahill]Theresa Cahill
It always pays to be on the alert for sage advice from others, and recently I found something that got me thinking... and now sharing... with you.
In a nutshell, say you want to put together a website of any type - affiliate, shopping, books, clothing, retail, wholesale, etc.
Before you start ask yourself this most important question, "Who will be my competition?"
The answer is simple. Online you are up against the Barnes & Noble's, the Amazon's, the Wal-Mart's... the list is endless.
Will your little website scarf the business away from these biggies? Of course not. Don't even dream.
So what can you do? Here are five ideas to get your web site designed in the right direction:
1. Develop a website designed to draw your visitors in. Since you can't be the best in terms of traffic and pricing (not up against the giants of your industry) you need to come at your business from the opposite direction. For every customer you draw to your site, give them a reason to stick around and then come back for more. Free stuff works like a charm. But make sure it is quality free stuff or you're missing the point.
2. Pick a niche. Versus trying for a conglomerate of everything do your homework and research specifics! Be the only one on your block that provides CDE (not ABC) widgets. If they can only get them from you, or you have the best source, they must come to you. The narrower you focus your site, on keywords and terms people are searching for, the greater you up your odds of being successful online.
3. Speaking of keywords, pick the right ones. If you go to great lengths to design and develop the prettiest, best, etc., website all about XYZ widgets, but no one is looking for them, what good will that do you? Not a darn lick of good. So do your homework first, then set to the task of developing your website around searched-for terms.
4. Maybe you're coming at making money online from the wrong direction. Versus products and stuff, where once again people can go to Barnes & Noble or Wal-Mart, what the internet provides is the perfect arena for savvy marketers to develop informational websites. Think about it... students, teachers, your mother and aunts and uncles all get online to LOOK THINGS UP right? Why not develop first a site that supplies that searched for information and then, on the side, suggests products and services to further that cause? It's easier to get someone to first come read then to come buy - especially if you're an unknown starting out.
5. Have a plan and set aside a budget. Most people love the idea of having their own spot on the web, but if it can't be found among the billions (yes billions) of other web pages, what good is it? Marketing and advertising takes money, patience, and persistence - in that order! - to develop website recognition. Think about these costs before you pour your heart into your design. To "break even" online means covering your hosting, your design (time or hired help), product inclusion, research (again time which is money) and marketing and advertising. Too often hundreds if not thousands of dollars are spent up front only to leave the proud but now poor website owner without the means to market and advertise. A website gathering dust is no website at all.
Having your own spot online - and making money from that spot for some - is the goal and dream of many internet users. The reality is yes your dream can go from rambling around inside your brain to a "physically virtual" place online. Just be sure to do your homework up front to develop that website you've been dreaming about!

Tips on Website Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anson_Linwood]Anson Linwood
To sell a product or a service, you must convince your customers to buy.
To convince your customers to buy, your website design must give the customers the content and tools they need to reach a buying decision.
Do not expect your customers to know your product or service and to know the differences between your products or services.
The more informative and helpful your website design, the more confidence it gives your customers to make a buying decision.
Therefore, design your website to be a more of a helping tool than a selling tool.
Here's the way to do it right, from the beginning.
First - Simplify your options. The more the merrier does not apply here. Giving customer too many options to choose from, customer may find it harder to make decision. When this happens, it is high chance that customer stop buying.
Next - Make your website design easy for your customer to decide between options. Describe your products or services in terms of their uses and their benefits. Start with the most important features and benefits first to grab customer's attention.
Try as much as possible, limit the use of technical terms.
For products, do not limit yourself to one photo per product. Use sufficient photos to show the details of your products.
Always give your customer a handy comparison tool to help your customer to compare and differentiate your products or services at one glance.
Lastly - Proactively address known concerns. If there are known concerns about your products or services, to proactive and address them upfront. One nice way to put them across to your customer is to address them in the "frequently ask question" session of your website.
The other common concerns which you must address are customer security and privacy concerns. You must give customer the reassurance that it is safe to shop and buy at your website.
By proactively removing these decision barriers in your website design, you bring your customer one step closer to buy your product or to buy your service.

Quick Web Site Design - How to Skip the Hard Part of Web Site Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sean_R_Mize]Sean R Mize
Are you trying to make your own website but can't even go past the design stage? Do you feel stuck where you are and tempted to abandon your attempt? Before ditching this project altogether, you may want to hear about quick web site designs that can help you skip the hard part of creating a website.
You don't have to start from scratch just to create a website. A lot of affordable software packages offer ready-made templates that can easily be filled out using click-and-drag technology. They are marketed towards people who wish to build websites for personal or small business use.
If you're worried about being stuck with a non-personalized website as a result of using templates, you'll be glad to know that software packages offering quick web site design allow you, the end-user, a lot of flexibility to practice your creativity. In some cases, you can even design your own templates which you can create in a user-friendly GUI. You don't have to delve into lines of lines of source codes only someone with solid technical skills can comprehend.
You can also experiment with Javascript, CSS, Flash, Swish, and XML. Flash and Swish allow you to have colorful animated graphics as decorations. Javascript can help you insert functions in every page that can help your visitors explore your website with ease. CSS gives you the freedom to choose the color and style of text and fonts. You never have to worry about having a seemingly mass-produced website with a little effort on your part. The level of customization you can give your website is only limited by your own imagination and willingness to take risks.

The Importance of E-Commerce Web Design and CSS
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kyle_Newton]Kyle Newton
Today’s technology is strengthening at a tremendous speed; the internet has become a vital resource for the majority of the population and counting. More and more people are exponentially learning to use the internet on a daily basis. The internet is a BOOMING industry as you may know.
The majority of all users out there are on some type either a desktop or a laptop computer and this has usually been the case. So designing “to fit” was never really a large issue for web developers until recently more and more users are purchasing and services there internet capable handhelds, cell phones, tablets of all shapes and sizes. The most flexible type of layout that can fit across the majority of these platforms is what is called a liquid layout. It’s a mix of html, PHP/ASP or any flavor code but most importantly CSS. CSS, short for Cascading Style Sheets, a new feature being added to HTML that gives both Web design developers and users more control over how pages are displayed. With CSS, designers and users can create style sheets that define how different elements, such as headers and links, appear.
These Style Sheets can then be applied to any Web page. This is a dynamic way to centralize the looks or style of any web site. This can also be applied when using different screen size. With your flavor of code added with CSS you can have the server displays the page to auto-detect which type of browser and or machine the viewer is looking at your site on, therefore it can auto-fit to the best perspective and layout, thus actually delivering your site to all users out there no matter what screen size or ratio they are viewing your site on. This a huge factor when developing one’s site and almost always goes overlooked when choosing a developer or firm to create your companies web site.
Now, if you do not plan ahead in the development stages you can lose a large percentage of viewers coming to your site. It’s one thing getting your traffic there, and to have a snazzy or flashy web design but allowing 100% of the viewers to actually see your site is a point this is far too often overlooked.

How to Start a Website Part III
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Fortimer]Mark Fortimer
Once you have chosen and registered a domain name, all you have to do now is design your webpages, starting with your home page. That is always the index page, so will likely have the index.html or index.php file name in your domain directory. The secret of rapidly building up pages on your site is to get your home page right. Plan the rest of your pages on paper, as far as you can, then put the links to them on your home page.
You can use that as a template for all your other web pages, saving you having to manually type all the links onto each page. Simply delete those that you do not want on specific pages. You should have at least 10 pages on your site before you submit it to the search engines, and there are a few tricks in doing that so that you can get quick listing. You will also have to learn a bit about search engine optimization (SEO) if you want your website listed in a decent position on the major search engines.
And that is basically how to start a website. There is an initial steep learning curve, and you will learn most in the first few months. After that you will continue to learn at a slower rate, and nobody on the planet knows all there is to know about search engines and websites because the internet is fluid, and constantly changing. Search engines and website design change with it.

Quality Website Content
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Theresa_Momber]Theresa Momber
Keep it simple. People using the internet are looking for quick easy information. Give it to them. The typical internet user wants to sift through quickly to find what they need. If they click on your site from a search engine and it takes more than about 1.5 seconds to load, there’s a good chance they’ll hit backup before they even get a chance to see what you have to offer. Resist the urge to load your site with large image files and impressive Flash files which will just drive potential traffic away. Strive to keep your load time short.
Keep it easy to read. If they wanted to read a book they’d go straight to Barnes & Noble. Keep your content short and easy to find. Long paragraphs are your enemy. Stick to short paragraphs and sentences. Make use of bullets and numbering. Make keywords bold in select locations. Use italics where appropriate. The typical web browser is skimming. Make it easy for them.
Be original. Write your own articles if at all possible. Search engines love unique content and you can improve your rankings if your site has a great deal of original content. If you are not confident in your skills as a writer, consider asking someone for help or even hire a local college student. Just give them a bullet list of points you want to make and ask them to write it up for you.
Use spell check. Any decent word processor will have a spell check function as well as a grammar check function. Make use of them. You want your website to look professional and misspelled words say to viewers that you are unprofessional, incompetent and untrustworthy. It’s harsh, but true.
Proof read. Don’t rely on spell checker alone. There are a great many spelling and grammar mistakes that word processors will not pick up. You may have a missing word, duplicate word, phrase or sentence. You may have simply used the wrong word like ‘too’ instead of ‘two.’ Get someone else to proof read for you. It’s harder to catch your own mistakes than someone else’s.
Keep it relevant. Make sure your content is consistent with the aim of your website. Make sure it is relevant to the needs of your viewer. If your website is selling garden products, it might be best to avoid writing articles about your favorite sports team. You can start a new website for that.
Keep it current. Don’t let your content get out of date. Review your articles regularly and update as needed. Check to make sure your facts are still true. If you have links to outside websites, and you should, make sure they are still active. Make sure any contact information on your site is up to date. When you are finished reviewing, start again.

Benefits to Hand Coding Your Website
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_Chadbourne]Linda Chadbourne
Are you one of many website designers who use a popular WYSWYG (What You See Is What You Get) program? I was one of them. I blissfully made websites using the ever-popular design view and grew a very nice clientele. Due to years of experience my websites were cross-browser compatible, affordable and attractive. Life was good!!!
I became intrigued by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) while surfing the net and decided to read about the benefits and do some tutorials. It seemed really interesting and I soon realized I could become a better designer. But there was a problem. I didn’t know anything about html (Hypertext Markup language)!
It didn’t take long to realize I was doing a disservice to my clients.
First let me list the good points about using a WYSWYG program in design view.
Small Learning Curve - With a little time, you will understand how to design a site. Unlike hand coding and learning any new language there is a learning curve which will take a bit of time to overcome.
Secondly it is faster to design a website using the design view and tables. Want the text bold, click the “B” button. Need a different font, select it from the drop-down box.
But that is where the benefits end.
Hand coding websites has many benefits.
Less Code - Less code results in smaller file sizes and faster load time.
Better SEO Results - Proper html with an external CSS style sheet allows Search Engines the freedom to focus on areas of importance without needing to sift through all kinds of meaningless code.
Maintenance and Update Ease - With CSS located in an external style sheet, updates and changes are easier and faster. If you choose to change the color of a link site-wide, you change ONE bit of CSS code in the external stylesheet. You no longer need to scan every html page to find every link.
Better Design Consistency - Because you have styled elements with CSS, you will not have any errors due to having forgotten or simply missed restyling something like a link. With consistency you have increased the chances of an enjoyable experience for the viewer. Also since all paragraphs look alike, all images are the same size, the visitors eye does not need to relearn how your website works thus delivering a very professional end product. Prior to using CSS, changing the styling of one element such as the color of a link required so much time and effort. I would have to search each page for links and hope I did not miss one.
Release all the Mysteries - Understanding html releases all the mysteries. Knowing how things work allows you to solve problems easier and also be more creative. You are no longer limited to square, blocky designs by tables restrictions.
File Size - Need another reason? The size of files should convince you.
Tables with all styling within the html: Page A = 8.8KB Page B = 10.7KB
HTML with external CSS: Page A = 6.33KB Page B = 6.33KB
HTML is the foundation and structure of a site. CSS is what gives the HTML style.
Knowing how to hand code versus using a WYSWYG program in design view gives you POWER and complete control of your website. Musicians begin by learning one note, one chord until they can play a song. To become a true hand coding designer and developer, learn one element, then another. Soon you will have a website that you can feel proud of because you did it yourself.

Illusion Technologies: Web Site Developers
Website Development on Your Own Terms
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scott_Lindsay]Scott Lindsay
The early days of web development saw a relatively small handful of ‘experts’ and had them seeking to find ways to make a website do what their client wanted them to do. There was very little standardized methods to make website development an easy process and each site may have been designed with customized programming that may have been totally incompatible with any other site.
When the number of programmers raised from a few hundred to more than 30,000 it became much clearer that there needed to be some cohesive way to simplify things. This process led to new partnerships and development applications that have become the standards of the day.
As new developments are unveiled they are field tested by programmers and implemented once it is clear that the methodology is workable.
In many cases these new development programs can be refined and repackaged into a form based method that allows non-tech customers to develop a website that is as functional as any other site and at a fraction of the cost.
Certainly this was not possible in 1995, but through the trial and error of more than ten years the best features have risen to the top and the have proven very useful to both programmers as well as online business.
With so many programs available to developers today it is becoming much easier to upgrade features and enhance website productivity.
Many programmers are very interested in making site developments self-directed by their customers. The reason is simply the sheer numbers of new sites that are being developed. If at least a portion of the site can be managed by the customer there are two benefits, 1) less need for one on one development for the programmer and, 2) more direct control by the website owner.
When the business owner has the capability of managing the functions of the website the faster the clarity of vision can be realized. This is largely viewed as one of the predominate features of self-directed programming on website developments.
The cost effective nature of self-directed site development has caused many to wonder why they didn’t look into this solution before. Many new start-up ecommerce sites have discovered this method to be the quickest way to provide their potential customers with the full benefit of their services.
The future of web development has a lot to do with the expectations of website owners and the demands of the consuming public. It is a safe assumption that as new technologies are required there will be programmers who can assist in its development and then work to refine the function so that ecommerce can implement the technology in a self-directed user-friendly format.

Web Site Marketing Strategy Made Simple
By Vann Baker
Developing a web site without a Web Site Strategy is like
trying to run a business without a business plan. Having a web
site strategy and evaluating the results of your strategy will
make sure you are meeting or exceeding your goals and help
insure your web site's success.
A quick search with Google, Yahoo! or any of the search engines
will reveal millions of web sites, the majority of which were
created with a focus on publishing content about a business or
product, with little thought of how practical the web site
really is or what the site is supposed to do.
Wants vs. Needs
It's important to distinguish between wants and needs and to
focus on functionality necessary to reach specific business
goals with your web site. Developing a marketing strategy is not
just limited to your web site goals, but your overall marketing
plan and what advertising, marketing and customer service goals
are best suited for your web site.
More often than not, a web site is treated as an afterthought
without a specific purpose beyond offering basic company
information and an e- mail form. We view a web site as an
interactive extension of a company, with few limitations.
Setting Web Site Goals
The first step is to list all the specific tasks you want your
web site to accomplish. Besides offering a potential customer
information about your company, what should your web site "do?"
Should your web site help you to accomplish E-commerce? Serve as
a lead source? Distribute information to your customers? Offer
customer service? Should your web site be used as a recruitment
tool? A customer survey tool? Or for advertising and promotion?
Creating a list of priorities
As you list what you want your site to do, prioritize the list
into three categories: 1) Primary, "must do" goals, 2)
Secondary, "it would be nice if . . ." and 3) Back Burner, "if
we have to postpone this, it wouldn't hurt us."
When grouping your web site goals, keep in mind the one
overwhelming reason for having a web site in the first place and
compare it to each of the goals as you prioritize them.
After establishing clearly what a client's stated web site
goals should be, we compare these goals with a client's
expectations regarding their web site, current Internet
technology and their marketing and advertising plan.
Separating wants and needs. The final step in creating an
E-Strategy is to separate wants from needs. It's easy to want
capabilities you have seen elsewhere on the Internet, but hard
sometimes to determine if certain functionality will really help
your business.
Do you really need a chat room or a message board on your site?
Perhaps it would be more important to know who is using your web
site and how often they are coming back.
Ordering Web Site Priorities
Having your priorities outlined and your goals detailed will
help you to determine what you really need. Go through your
priority list and measure it against your web site goals. If a
web site feature you want will help you to accomplish a specific
task then include it as long as it utilizes Internet technology
or browser technology that is widely supported by today's
browsers.
If you have items on your list that don't match your web site
goals well, it's probably a good idea to hold off implementing
them. Finally, having a priority list will make it easier to
decide what to include or exclude in your web site when working
within a limited web site budget.
10 Tips for a Great Web Site
1) Making great first impressions is important and your web
site may be the first exposure to your company a potential
customer experiences. Strike a balance between content and
design.
2) Avoid focusing exclusively on graphic design rather than
making the web site useful. Give your web site visitors a reason
to visit your site often.
3) Create simple navigation. Design your site so your users can
go from one page to any other page. Avoid navigation schemes
that rely on the user having to search for a secondary
navigation menu or having to use their browser's "back" button
in order to navigate.
4) Distribute your web site information on several pages so the
user does not have to scroll often. By distributing your
photographs and graphics over several pages, your pages will
load faster.
5) Know who is coming to your site and how your site is being
used on a monthly or quarterly basis. This information will be
invaluable for updating or refocusing your site to better serve
your target market or customers.
6) Update your site frequently and create a reason for your web
site users to keep coming back. Repeat visits give you an
opportunity to repeat your marketing message.
7) Capture information with your web site. Use forms, offers,
surveys and promotions to get your web site users to tell you
who they are and what they are interested in. Not only will this
help you to design a more useful web site, collecting e-mail
addresses can allow you to notify customers and potential
customers about new products or services.
8) Avoid bells and whistles. With the web, today's fad is
tomorrow's eyesore. Invest in good graphic design and compelling
content. If you must use animations, have them stop after a few
cycles so they don't become obnoxious.
9) Review your web site goals quarterly. As the Internet
evolves and as new technology becomes mainstream, it is good to
review the purpose of your site and the usefulness of new tools
and implement these new tools when they make sense.
10) Avoid "do-it-yourself web site design." Yes, there are
programs that let you build your own web site. If you don't have
experience in graphic design or producing professional web
sites, hire a web development company with proven abilities to
help you.
